Receiving Social Security
The government assumes that you are not working and need health insurance.
You will automatically be mailed a Medicare Card with Parts A & B three months prior to the month you turn 65.
If you have employer health coverage through your or your spouse's active group employment and want to keep it, follow the instructions that came with the card to turn down Medicare Part B. You can sign up for Part B later with no penalty.
If you are keeping Medicare A & B, it's important that you give us a call.
NOT receiving Social Security
The government assumes that you are still working and do not need Medicare A & B.
If you have insurance through your or your spouse's active group employment and you want to keep it, then it's "optional" to sign up for Medicare A (Signing up for Medicare Part A mandates stopping HSA contributions). Do NOT sign up for Part B.
If you need health insurance, you must sign up for Medicare Parts A & B.
We will help you sign up! Save Money and Time by using our free services.
Notes
• • Exception: You should sign up for Part B if Medicare is the primary insurer.
This happens if your company has <20 employees or <100 if disabled.
